WHAT  SALOFALK
®
  500MG  GASTRO-RESISTANT  TABLETS  ARE  AND  WHAT 
THEY ARE USED FOR 
Salofalk
®
 500mg contains the active substance mesalazine, an anti-inflammatory agent used to treat 
inflammatory bowel disease. 

Salofalk
®
 500mg is used in:

  ulcerative colitis (chronic inflammatory disease of the colon), both for the treatment of acute 
episodes and prevention of further episodes (relapse) 
-

Crohn’s disease (a chronic inflammatory bowel disease), for the treatment of acute episodes.


 500mg gastro-resistant tablet contains 500 mg mesalazine as the therapeutically 
active substance. 

Excipients: sodium carbonate and croscarmellose sodium

Appearance: oval, light yellow to ochre-coloured gastro-resistant tablets, matt with smooth 
surface; not scored.

Ulcerative colitis: treatment of acute episodes and to prevent a relapse

4.2  POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION 

Adults and the elderly: 

Depending upon the clinical requirements in individual cases, the following daily doses are 
recommended:

Children: 

In children (6-18 years), there is only limited proof with regard to efficacy. 

Acute episodes: 
After a starting dose of 30-50 mg/kg body weight/day, administered in separate doses, the 
dose must be individually adjusted. Maximum dose: 75 mg/kg body weight/day. The total 
dose should not exceed the recommended adult dose. 

Relapse prophylaxis (ulcerative colitis): 
After a starting dose of 15-30 mg/kg body weight/day, administered in separate do
