The manufacturer's intended purpose for this device is to provide a solution to wear ear-loop surgical face masks without having to loop the mask elastic behind the operator's ear. The reason behind this is to avoid the pressure points potentially caused by having to wear ear-loop face masks for an extended period of time. Additionally, this device allows the operator to decide the degree of tension to be applied to the face mask elastic loop, hence allowing to vary the mask tightness to the operator's face.
