HEXIDIN CREAM 1%
COMPOSITION:
Each gram contains Chlorhexidine Gluconate 10mg.
DESCRIPTION:
A white to off white, smooth homogenous mass.
PHARMACODYNAMIC:
Chlorhexidine is a bisbiguanide antiseptic and disinfectant which is
bactericidal or
bacteriostatic against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative
bacteria.
PHARMACOKINETIC:
Chlorhexidine is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and
skin.
INDICATION:
As
a
disinfectant
cream.
It
can
be
used
for
disinfection
or
lubricating
during
gynaecological and obstetric procedures or childbirth.
RECOMMENDED DOSAGE:
Clean the affected skin area and apply cream as required.
ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION:
Topical administration
CONTRAINDICATION:
Known hypersensitivity to any of the constituents.
WARNING AND PRECAUTION:
Not to be used on the brain, meninges or perforated ear drum. Keep
disinfectant cream out of
the eyes, ears and mouth.
Chlorhexidine is known to induce hypersensitivity, including
generalised allergic reactions
and anaphylactic shock. The prevalence of chlorhexidine
hypersensitivity is unknown, but
available literature suggests this is likely to be very rare. Should
not be administered to
anyone
with
a
possible
history
of
an
allergic
reaction
to
chlorhexidine.
If any signs or symptoms of a suspected hypersensitivity reaction such
as itching, skin rash,
redness, swelling, breathing difficulties, light-headedness, and rapid
heart rate develop,
immediately stop using the product.
Appropriate therapeutic countermeasures must be instituted as
clinically indicated
DRUG INTERACTION:
Chlorhexidine is incompatible with anionic agents.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:
The product is not contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
However, as with all
medicines during pregnancy, caution should be exercised.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Rarely irritancy, rashes and skin sensitivity.

means
of
gastric
lavages.
