WHAT GABAPENTIN 
ASPEN IS USED FOR

_WHAT GABAPENTIN _
_ASPEN DOES _

Gabapentin  Aspen  is  used  to 
control  epilepsy  in  stabilised 
patients.  

Epilepsy  is a condition  where 
you  have  repeated  seizures 
(fits). 
There 
are 
many 
different  types  of  seizures, 
ranging from mild to severe.  

Gabapentin  Aspen  is  also 
used  to  treat  neuropathic 
pain,  a  type  of  pain  caused 
by damage to the nerves.  

Gabapentin Aspen belongs to 
a  group  of  medicines  called 
anticonvulsants.

Gabapentin  (CAS  60142-96-3)  is  described  as  1-(aminomethyl)  cyclohexaneacetic  acid  with  an 
empirical  formula  of  C

  and  a  molecular  weight  of  171.24.    The  molecular  structure  of 
gabapentin is: 

DESCRIPTION 
Gabapentin  is  a  white  to  off  white  crystalline  solid.  It  is  freely  soluble  in  water  and  both  basic  and 
acidic aqueous solutions. 
INACTIVE:
  Starch-maize,  copovidone,  poloxamer,  ethanol,  hydroxypropylcellulose,  magnesium 
stearate and talc-purified.

The  mechanism  by  which  gabapentin  exerts  its  anticonvulsant  action  is  unknown.  Gabapentin  is 
structurally  related  to  the  neurotransmitter  GABA  (gamma-aminobutyric  acid)  but  its  mechanism  of 
action  is  different  from  that  of  several  other  drugs  that  interact  with  GABA  synapses,  including
