\ SUMMARY PRODUCT CHARACTERISTIC (SPC) METOPROLOL 50 MG TABLETS TRADE NAME - MetoProlol INTERNATIONAL NON-PROPERTY NAME - Metorpolol tartrate COMPOSITION Each tablet contains: active ingredient: metoprolol tartrate - 50mg inactive ingredients: niicrocrystalline cellulose , lactose monohydrate , calcium phosphate dibasic , piridorr., magnesium stearate , sodium starch glycolate DOSAGE FORM Tablets White scored biconvex tablets. PIIARMACOLOGICAL GROUP AND ATC CODE cardiovascular, betar-adrenoceptor selective antagonist; ATC code: c07AB02 PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION Metoprolol is a betal-selective (cardioselective) adrenergic blocking agenl Metoprolol reduces production of cAMP from ATP, stimulated by katecholamines' It reduces the chronotrop, dromotrop and batmotrop activity and has a negative inotrop action on heart muscles. As a result or trrit mechanism the hea* rate falls, the recovery time in sinus node in*eases as well as the re&actory time in the atrioventricular node' This lead to atrial stimuiation and protoogution of atriovenfficular interval. These p(ocesses simuitaneously stipulate the less cardiai output demand of oxygen, and, connected with these thereafter lessen the oxygen necessity. Al of th".e mechanisms leads to antianginal effect.
