HOW CUINE ORAL POWDER WORKS Glucosamine is a natural substance, involved in the building of cartilage tissue in the body; glucosamine is also present in tendons and ligaments. Glucosamine acts to improve the viscosity of fluid that surrounds joints by increasing fluid production, thereby providing lubricant activity. BEFORE YOU USE CUINE ORAL POWDER _- When you must not use it _ - Hypersensitivity to glucosamine or to any of the ingredients. - As the active ingredient is obtained from seafood (shellfish), the product should not be given to people who are allergic to shellfish. - Children: Safety and effectiveness have not established in children. Therefore children should avoid using glucosamine. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. _-Before you start to use it _ Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions, including if you: - are breast feeding a baby; pregnant, or trying to become pregnant soon. Usage during the first three months of pregnancy must be avoided. - are phenylketonuric. - have severe liver or kidney insufficiency. - have presence of other joint conditions/diseases. _-Taking other medicines _ Make sure your doctor knows what other medicines you are taking, including those that you have bought yourself, especially medicines for: - diabetes such as acarbose, glipizide, metformin, rosiglitazone, etc; - medicines for cancer such as doxorubicin, etoposide and teniposide; - medicines for blood thinning such as warfarin. NAME AND STRENGTH OF ACTIVE SUBSTANCE Glucosamine sulfate sodium chloride 1884.15 equivalent to 1500 mg glucosamine sulfate PRODUCT DESCRIPTION CUINE Oral powder 1500 mg appears as white, loose and dry, uniform in colour powder. The reconstituted solution appears as clear, white to colourless, lemon flavor solution. PHARMACODYNAMIC Glucosamine is a natural substance found in chitin, mucoproteins, and mucopolysaccharides. It is involved in the manufacture of glycosaminoglycan, which forms cartilage tissue in the body; glucosamine is also present in tendons and ligaments. Glucosamine must be synthesised by the body but the ability to do this declines with age. Glucosamine and its salts have therefore been advocated in the treatment of rheumatic disorders including osteroarthritis. Glucosamine also acts to improve the viscosity of synovial fluid by increasing synovial fluid production, thereby providing lubricant activity. PHARMACOKINETIC _Absorption_ : After oral administration, bioavailability is low due to first-pass hepatic metabolism ~ 26%. The gastrointestinal absorption is close to 90%. _Distribution_ : Glucosamine is not protein-bound, but rather incorporates into plasma proteins (primarily globulins). Volume of distribution is about 2.5 litres _Metabolism_ : Liver, extensive. The first-pass effect in the liver in which more than 70% of glucosamine is metabolized. _Elimination_ : Renal excretion, 10%. Feces, 11%. Part of a dose glucosamine sulfate is eliminated as carbon dioxide via expired air. INDICATIONS As adjuvant therapy for osteoarthritis. RECOMMENDED DOSAGE Adults: 1 sachet (dissolved in a glass of water) once daily. The treatment of osteoarthritis should be repeated every other 6 months or less (according to medical prescription) Children: Safety and effectiveness have not established in children.
