ACTIONS
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Thiamine mononitrate is a vitamin (B1)
Riboflavine is a vitamin (B2)
Nicotinamide is a vitamin (B3)
PHARMACODYNAMIC PROPERTIES
Vitamin B complex is a group of water-soluble factors that are more or
less
closely associated with their natural occurrence. Almost every
B-complex vitamin
is
part
of
co-enzyme
necessary
for
protein,
carbohydrate,
or
fatty
acid
metabolism.
PHARMACOKINETIC PROPERTIES
Thiamine is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is widely
distributed to
most body tissues. It is not stored to any appreciable extent in the
body and
amounts in excess of requirements are excreted in the urine as
unchanged
thiamine or metabolites.
Riboflavine
is
rapidly
absorbed
from
the
gastrointestinal
tract. Although
riboflavine is widely distributed to body tissue, little is stored in
the body.
Riboflavin is converted in the body to the coenzyme flavine
mononucleotide
(FMN) and then to another coenzyme flavine adenine dinucleotide (FAD).
About
60% FMN and FAD are bound to plasma proteins. Riboflavine is excreted
in the
urine, partly as metabolites. As the dose increases, more significant
amounts
are excreted unchanged.
Nicotinamide is readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract
following oral
administration and is widely distributed
