WHAT SUNEX COUGH SYRUP IS USED FOR
It is used as an expectorant for control of
cough due to cold or allergy.
HOW SUNEX COUGH SYRUP WORKS
The active ingredients in the medicine
are Diphenhydramine hydrochloride, Ammo-
nium chloride and Sodium citrate. Diphenhy-
dramine is an ethanolamine-derivative anti-
histamine. It shares the action and uses of
other antihistamines which work by block-
ing a certain natural substance (histamine)
that your body makes during an allergic reac-
tion. It is also used as an antitussive (to
suppress cough) for temporary relief of cough
caused by minor throat and bronchial irrita-
tion such as may occur with common colds or
inhaled irritants.
Ammonium chloride may act as an expecto-
rant which works by irritating gastric mucosa
to increase secretion of mucus making it less
viscous and easier to expel.
Sodium
citrate
is
used
as
a
source
of
bicarbonate when employed as alkalinizing
agent.
