What Prinazin is used for
Maintenance treatment for d isorders of
balance -labyrinthine (internal ear
disturbances )including vertigo (spinning
feeling), dizziness, tinnitus (ringing of
ears) , nystag mus (involuntary eye
mov ement) , nausea and vomiting. It is also
used as prevention of motion sickness.
How Prinazin work s
Cinnarizine has antihistamine activity ,
relaxes the smooth muscle sand dilates
blood vessels .
Before you use Prinazin
-When you m ust not use it
Ifyou are allergic to cinnarizine or any
of the other ingredients of Prinazin .
-Before you start to use it
Caution when driving or doing jobs
requiring alertness because of possible
drowsiness.
-Taking other medic ine s
Tell your doctor if you are taking any
other medicines, including any that you
buy without a prescription from a
pharmacy, supermarket or health food
shop.
How to use Prinazin
-How much to use
Disorders of balance:
Adult: 1 tablet of 25 mg three times a day .
Prevention of motion sickness:
Adult and adolescent aged 13 years and
above: 1 tablet of 25 mg at least half an
hour before travelling; to be repeated
every 6 hours;
Children aged 6 to 12 years: half of the
adult dose i s recommended.
Cinnarizine should preferably be taken
after meals. It is for oral administration.
Follow all directions given to you by your
doctor and pharmacist carefully. They
may differ from the information contained
in this leaflet. If you do not understand the
instructions on the label, ask your doctor
or pharmacist for help.

Description: White, round, flat with top -scored tablet. Diameter = 7.00mm. CONTENT
Cinnarizine 25mg/tablet
INDICATIONS
- Disorders of balance - maintenance therapy for symptoms of labyrinthine disorders, including vertigo, dizziness, tinnitus, nystagmus, nausea and vomiting.
- Prophylaxis of motion sickness.
PHARMACOLOGY
Cinnarizine has antihistamine activity and is also a smooth muscle relaxant and vasodilator. Sedative effects are
not marked. It is well absorbed orally, metabolised in the liver, and excreted in the urine.
ADVERSE EFFECTS
Allergic skin reactions , fatigue , drowsiness and dyskinesia , extrapyramidal disorder , Parkinsonism and tremor in
elderly people during prolonged therapy .
DRUG INTERACTION S
Alcohol, CNS depressants and tricyclic antidepressants - The sedative effects of cinnarizine and of any of the
following may be potentiated when used concomitantly.
Diagnostic interference - Because of its antihistamine effect, cinnarizine may prevent otherwise positive reactions
to dermal reactivity indicators if used up to 4 days p rior to skin testing.
PRECAUTIONS
- As with other antihistamines cinna rizine may cause epigastric distress; taking it after meals may diminish gastric irritation.
- In patients with Parkinson’s disease cinnarizine should only be given if the advantages outweigh the possible risk of aggravating this disease.
- Cinnarizine may cause somnolence, especially at the start of treatment. Therefore, caution should be taken when alcohol, central nervous system (CNS) depressants or tricyclic antidepressants are used concomitantly.
PREGNANCY AND LACTAT ION
Safety for use in pregnancy and lactation has not been established.
Pregnancy: Although in animal studies, cinnarizine has shown no teratogenic effects, as with all drugs, cinnarizine
should be used during pregnanc y only if the therapeutic benefits justify the potential risks for the fetus.
Breast -feeding: There are no data on the excretion of cinnarizine in human breast milk: nursing should therefore be
