WHAT SILAGRA IS USED FOR
Silagra is used to treat erectile dysfunction, more commonly known as
impotence, in men. This is when a man cannot get, or keep, a hard
erect penis
suitable for sexual activity.
Silagra belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type
5
inhibitors.
It works by relaxing the blood vessels in your penis when you are
sexually
excited. This allows blood to flow into your penis, allowing you to
get an
erection in the natural way.
Silagra will work only if you are sexually excited. Silagra will not
increase your
sex drive. Silagra is not for use in women.
This medicine is available only with a doctor's prescription or from a
pharmacist trained to supply sildenafil without a doctor’s
prescription.
BEFORE YOU TAKE SILAGRA
YOU MUST NOT TAKE SILAGRA IF YOU ARE TAKING ANY NITRATE OR
NITRITE MEDICATION. IT MAY LEAD TO A SEVERE DROP IN YOUR BLOOD
PRESSURE, WHICH MAY BE DIFFICULT TO TREAT
.
BECAUSE SEXUAL ACTIVITY MAY PLACE A STRAIN ON YOUR HEART,
YOUR DOCTOR WILL NEED TO CHECK WHETHER YOU ARE FIT ENOUGH
TO TAKE SILAGRA.

1. YOU ARE BEING TREATED FOR ANGINA (CHEST PAIN) OR OTHER HEART
CONDITIONS WITH
CERTAIN MEDICINES CALLED NITRATES.

nitroglycerin). Common

Sildenafil Citrate Tablets 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg
PRESENTATION
Silagra 25 mg tablets are blue, almond shaped, biconvex, film coated
tablets,
debossed with ‘25’ on one side and plain on other side.
Silagra 50 mg tablets are blue, almond shaped, biconvex, film coated
tablets,
debossed with ‘50’ on one side and plain on other side.
Silagra 100 mg tablets are blue, almond shaped, biconvex, film coated
tablets,
debossed with ‘100’ on one side and plain on other side.
In addition to sildenafil citrate, each Silagra tablet contains the
following inactive
ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, calcium hydrogen phosphate
anhydrous,
croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, film coating
material
Opadry II -31K80865 Blue {hypromellose, titanium dioxide, lactose
monohydrate,
triacetin and indigo carmine aluminium lake}.
Silagra tablets 25 mg & 100 mg are presented in PVC/Alu blister packs
of 4 & 12
tablets.
Silagra tablets 50 mg are presented in PVC/Alu blister packs of 1
(sample pack),
4 & 12 tablets.
USES
_ACTIONS _
Sildenafil is an oral therapy for erectile dysfunction which restores
impaired
erectile function by increasing blood flow to the penis, resulting in
a natural
response to sexual stimulation.
The physiological mechanism responsible for erection of the penis
involves the
release of nitric oxide (NO) in the corpus cavernosum during sexual
stimulation.
Nitric oxide then activates the enzyme, guanylate cyclase, which
results in
increased levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), producing
smooth
muscle relaxation in the corpus cavernosum and allowing inflow of
blood.
Sildenafil is a potent and selective inhibitor of cGMP specific
phosphodiesterase
type 5 (PDE5) which is responsible for degradation of cGMP in the
corpus
cavernosum. Sildenafil has a peripheral site of action on erections.
Sildenafil has
no direct relaxant effect on isolated human corpus cavernosum but
potently
enhances the relaxant effect of NO on this tissue. When the NO/cGMP
