You may need to read it again. WHAT H-CORT OINTMENT IS USED FOR H-Cort Ointment is used to suppress skin disease in which inflammation is the prominent feature. These skin problems include eczema, infantile eczema, atopic dermatitis, dermatitis herpetiformis, contact dermatitis, neurodermatitis, psoriasis and intertrigo. HOW H-CORT OINTMENT WORKS H-Cort Ointment contains a medicine called hydrocortisone. It belongs to a group of medicines called steroids. It has anti- inflammatory, anti-itching and blood vessel narrowing actions. Ask your pharmacist or doctor if you have any questions about this medicine. BEFORE YOU USE H-CORT OINTMENT _ _ - _When you must not use it _ Do not use H-Cort Ointment if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to hydrocortisone, other corticosteroids, or any of the other ingredients in this medicine. - _Before you start to use it _ Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you are applying the ointment under an airtight dressing, including a child’s nappy. Est. 1979 H-CORT CREAM & OINTMENT 1% W/W NAME AND STRENGTH OF ACTIVE SUBSTANCE: Hydrocortisone 1% w/w. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: CREAM: A white cream. Other ingredients: White soft paraffin, Liquid paraffin, Chlorocresol, Cetostearyl alcohol, Propylene glycol, Macrogol cetostearyl ether (Cetomacrogol 1000) and Purified water. OINTMENT: A white ointment. Other ingredients. White soft paraffin and Liquid paraffin. PHARMACODYNAMICS : Hydrocortisone is a topically active corticosteroid which has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictive actions. PHARMACOKINETICS : Corticosteroids are extensively bound to plasma protein. Only unbound corticosteroids has pharmacological effects or is metabolised. They are metabolised mainly in the liver and also in the kidney, and are excreted in the urine. INDICATIONS : Suppression of skin diseases in which inflammation is a prominent feature, e.g. eczema, infantile eczema, atopic dermatitis, dermatitis herpetiformis, contact dermatitis, neurodermatitis, psoriasis and intertrigo. CONTRAINDICATION : Hypersensitivity to hydrocortisone, other corticosteroids, or any component in the base. DRUG INTERACTION : Not known. ADVERSE EFFECT : Reported local adverse reactions are burning sensation, itching, irritation, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruptions, hypopigmentation, maceration of the skin, secondary infection, skin atrophy, striae and miliaria. Systemic adverse reactions, such as vision blurred, have also been reported with the use of topical corticosteroids. PRECAUTIONS/WARNINGS: Discontinue use if irritation, sensitivity or other reaction develop and institute appropriate treatment. Corticosteroid applied to the skin can be absorbed in sufficient amount to produce systemic effects such as hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression, manifestation of Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycaemia and glucosuria.
