CLINICAL PARTICULARS
Therapeutic indications
Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, w hen dietary management and exerc ise alone does not result in
adequate glyc aemic c ontrol.
- In adults, G LUCOPHAGE® 850 mg film -c oated tablet may be used as monotherapy or in
c ombination w ith other oral anti -diabetic agents or w ith insulin.
- In c hildren from 10 years of age and adoles c ents , GLUCOPHAGE® 850 mg film -c oated tablet
may be us ed as mo notherapy or in c ombination w ith insulin.
A reduc tion of diabetic c omplic ations has been show n in overw eight type 2 diabetic adult patients
treated w ith metformin as first- line therapy after diet failure, s ee Pharmac odynamic properties.
Posology and me th od of administration
Adults w ith normal renal func tion (GFR ≥ 90mL/min)
Monotherapy and combination with other oral antidiabetic agents:
- The usual starting dose is one tablet 2 or 3 times daily given during or after meals. After 10 to
15 days the dose should be adjusted on the basis of blood gluc ose measurements. A s low inc reas e
of dose may improve gastrointestinal tolerability.
