1. CHE COS’È VYTORIN E A COSA SERVE
VYTORIN contiene i principi attivi ezetimibe e simvastatina.
VYTORIN è un medicinale che viene utilizzato per diminuire i livelli
del colesterolo totale, del
colesterolo “cattivo” (colesterolo LDL) e delle sostanze grasse
dette trigliceridi nel sangue. In più,
VYTORIN aumenta i livelli del colesterolo “buono” (colesterolo
HDL).
VYTORIN agisce in due modi per abbassare il colesterolo. Il principio
attivo ezetimibe riduce il
colesterolo assorbito nel tratto digerente. Il principio attivo
simvastatina che appartiene alla classe
delle “statine” inibisce la produzione del colesterolo
sintetizzato dall’organismo.
Il colesterolo è una delle diverse sostanze grasse che si trovano nel
flusso sanguigno. Il colesterolo
totale è composto principalmente da colesterolo LDL e colesterolo
HDL.
Il colesterolo LDL è spesso chiamato colesterolo “cattivo”
perché si può accumulare nelle pareti delle
arterie formando delle placche. Con il passare del tempo, questo

RIASSUNTO DELLE CARATTERISTICHE DEL PRODOTTO
1. DENOMINAZIONE DEL MEDICINALE
VYTORIN 10 mg/10 mg, 10 mg/20 mg, 10 mg/40 mg o 10 mg/80 mg compresse.
2. COMPOSIZIONE QUALITATIVA E QUANTITATIVA
Ogni compressa contiene 10 mg di ezetimibe e 10, 20, 40 o 80 mg di
simvastatina.
Eccipiente (i) con effetti noti
Ogni compressa da 10 mg/10 mg contiene 58,2 mg di lattosio monoidrato.
Ogni compressa da 10 mg/20 mg contiene 126,5 mg di lattosio
monoidrato.
Ogni compressa da 10 mg/40 mg contiene 262,9 mg di lattosio
monoidrato.
Ogni compressa da 10 mg/80 mg contiene 535,8 mg di lattosio
monoidrato.

3. FORMA FARMACEUTICA
Compressa.
Compresse a forma di capsula bianco-biancastre con il codice
“311”, “312”, “313” o “315” su un lato.
4. INFORMAZIONI CLINICHE
4.1 INDICAZIONI TERAPEUTICHE
Ipercolesterolemia
VYTORIN è indicato come terapia aggiuntiva alla dieta in pazienti con
ipercolesterolemia primaria
(eterozigote familiare e non-familiare) o con iperlipidemia mista ove
sia indicato l’uso di un prodotto
di associazione:
•
pazienti non controllati adeguatamente con una statina da sola
•
pazienti già trattati con una statina ed ezetimibe
VYTORIN contiene ezetimibe e simvastatina. È stato dimostrato che la
simvastatina (20-40 mg)
riduce la frequenza degli eventi cardiovascolari (vedere paragrafo
5.1). Non è stato ancora dimostrato
un effetto benefico di ezetimibe sulla morbilità e sulla mortalità
cardiovascolare.
Ipercolesterolemia familiare omozigote (IF omozigote)
VYTORIN è indicato come terapia aggiuntiva alla dieta in pazienti con
ipercolesterolemia familiare
omozigote. I pazienti possono essere sottoposti anche ad ulteriori
misure terapeutiche (ad esempio,
l’aferesi delle lipoproteine a bassa densità [LDL]).
4.2 POSOLOGIA E MODO DI SOMMINISTRAZIONE

Il paziente deve seguire un adeguato regime dietetico a basso
contenuto lipidico e deve proseguire la
dieta nel corso del trattamento con VYTORIN.
