PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A. 24 Mineral substitutes, electrolytes
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Calcium is an essential body electrolyte. It is involved in the maintenance of normal muscle and nerve function, is
essential for normal cardiac function, and is essential to the clotting of blood. Adequate amounts are present in the
average diet except for growing children and pregnant or lactating women.
INDICATIONS:
Calcium salts are used mainly in the treatment of Calcium deficiency and hypocalcaemia. Hypocalcaemia may occur in
malnutrition or dietary deficiency.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Calcium enhances the effect of digitalis on the heart and may precipitate digitalis intoxication.
WARNINGS:
THE TABLETS SHOULD BE CHEWED BEFORE BEING SWALLOWED. THE TABLETS SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN
OVER PROLONGED PERIODS WITHOUT MEDICAL ADVICE.
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Adults:         Chew three tablets up to three times daily as required or as prescribed.
Children:         100 to 125 mg/Kg body weight. The dose may be repeated up to four times daily.
