4.1. PHARMACODYNAMIC PROPERTIES
Oxytetracycline is a bacteriostatic antibiotic that acts on bacterial
ribosomes by
inhibiting the protein synthesis. It has a very broad spectrum of
activity, which includes
gram positive germs, gram negative germs, some big viruses, protozoa,
spirochaetes,
rickettsias, mycoplasmas and chlamydias.
Thanks to its long-acting formula, a single injection of
OXITETRACICLINA 200 L.A.
can reach a complete antibiotherapy, due to the fact that efficacious
blood levels are
maintained for 3 days.
4.2. PHARMACOKINETIC PROPERTIES
After intramuscular administration, plasmatic concentrations of
oxytetracycline are
detectable during the first 30 minutes, and thanks to its long-action
formulation it
mantains significant blood concentrations for 3 days.
Once absorbed, it binds to plasmatic proteins. It is distributed in
all the organism
specially in lung, kidney, liver and spleen where the highest
concentrations are
reached as well as in active zones of ossification. It presents lower
concentrations in
saliva, ocular humours and milk. It also crosses placental barrier.
Tetracyclines diffuse with difficulty to the cerebrospinal liquid,
being in a higher degree
when meninges are inflammed.
It is excreted mainly
