WHAT VALGANCICLOVIR CIPLA IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Valganciclovir belongs to a group of medicines, which work directly to
prevent the growth of
viruses. In the body the active ingredient in the tablets,
valganciclovir, is changed into
ganciclovir. Ganciclovir prevents a virus called cytomegalovirus (CMV)
from multiplying and
invading healthy cells. In patients with a weakened immune system, CMV
can cause an infection
in the body’s organs. This can be life threatening.
Valganciclovir Cipla is used:
•
for the treatment of CMV-infections of the retina of the eye in adult
patients with acquired
immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). CMV-infection of the retina of the
eye can cause vision
problems and even blindness.
•
to prevent CMV-infections in adults and children who are not infected
with CMV and who
have received an organ transplant from somebody who was infected by
CMV.

motsvarande 450 mg valganciklovir.

Rosafärgade, kapselformade, bikonvexa filmdragerade tabletter som är

KLINISKA UPPGIFTER
4.1
TERAPEUTISKA INDIKATIONER
Valganciclovir Cipla är indicerat för induktions- och
underhållsbehandling av cytomegalovirus
(CMV)-retinit hos vuxna patienter med förvärvat immunbristsyndrom
(AIDS).
Valganciclovir Cipla är indicerat som profylax mot CMV-sjukdom hos
CMV-negativa vuxna och barn
(från födseln till 18 år) som fått ett organtransplantat från en
CMV-positiv donator.
4.2
DOSERING OCH ADMINISTRERINGSSÄTT
Dosering
_Försiktighet – Strikt följsamhet till doseringsrekommendationerna
är nödvändig för att undvika _
_överdosering (se avsnitt 4.4 och 4.9)._
Valganciklovir metaboliseras snabbt och fullständigt till ganciklovir
efter oral dosering. Oralt
valganciklovir 900 mg 2 gånger dagligen är terapeutiskt ekvivalent
med intravenöst. ganciklovir 5
mg/kg 2 gånger dagligen.
_Behandling av cytomegalovirus (CMV)-retinit_
_Vuxna patienter_
_Induktionsbehandling vid CMV-retinit:_
För patienter med aktiv CMV-retinit är den rekommenderade dosen 900
mg valganciklovir (2 tabletter
valganciklovir 450 mg) två gånger dagligen i 21 dagar och bör, om
möjligt, tas tillsammans med föda.
Förlängd induktionsbehandling kan öka risken för
benmärgstoxicitet (se avsnitt 4.4).

_Underhållsbehandling vid CMV-retinit_
Efter induktionsbehandling, eller för patienter med inaktiv
CMV-retinit, är den rekommenderade
dosen 900 mg valganciklovir (2 tabletter valganciklovir 450 mg) en
gång dagligen och bör, om
