BETAMETHASONE DIPROPIONATE
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A white cream pack in 5g tube.
COMPOSITION
Each gram of Betalin Cream contains 0.64mg of Betamethasone
Dipropionate (0.5mg of Betamethasone).
MODE OF ACTION
Bethamethasone dipropionate is a corticosteroid and has
anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictive effects.
demonstrates these activities in a sustained manner, thereby
permitting twice-a-day or, in some cases, once-a-day
application.
PHARMACODYNAMICS AND PHARMACOKINETICS
Pharmacodynamics
Betalin Cream preparations contain the dipropionate ester of
betamethasone which is a glucocorticoid exhibiting the
general properties of corticosteroids.
In pharmacological doses, corticosteroids are used primarily for their
anti-inflammatory and/or immune suppressive
effects.
Topical corticosteroids such as betamethasone dipropionate are
effective in the treatment of a range of dermatoses
because of their anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic and vasoconstrictive
actions. However, while the physiologic,
pharmacologic and clinical effects of the corticosteroids are well
known, the exact mechanisms of their action in
each disease are uncertain.
PHARMACOKINETICS
Betamethasone dipropionate is readily absorbed from the
gastrointestinal tract and also absorbed from sites of local
administration. Sufficient betamethasone dipropionate may be absorbed
to give systemic effects when used topically,
particularly under an occlusive dressing or when the skin is broken,
or as a rectal enema. Betamethasone dipropionate
are rapidly distributed to all body tissues. It crosses the placenta
and may be distributed in small amounts into breast
milk. Like most corticosteroids, betamethasone in the circulation are
extensively bound to plasma proteins, mainly to
globulin and less so to albumin. Betamethasone dipropionate is
metabolized mainly in the liver but also in other
tissues and excreted in urine.
INDICATIONS
Betalin cream is indicated for the relief of the inflammatory
manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive derm
