PRODUCT DESCRIPTION A White,capsule-shaped tablet with flat edges with face marked ‘Panadol C’ consist of paracetamol 500mg and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 30mg. PHARMACODYNAMIC PARACETAMOL Paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic. Its mechanism of action is believed to include inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, primarily within the central nervous system The lack of peripheral prostaglandin inhibition confers important pharmacological properties such as the maintenance of the protective prostaglandins within the gastrointestinal tract. Paracetamol is, therefore, particularly suitable for patients with a history of disease or on concomitant medication, where peripheral prostaglandin inhibition would be undesirable (such as, for example, those with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or the elderly) PSEUDOEPHEDRINE HYDROCHLORIDE Pseudoephedrine is predominantly an indirect-acting sympathomimetic amine with less direct adrenergic effect than its epimer, ephedrine. S(+)-pseudoephedrine is the naturally-occurring isomer and the one used in clinical practice. Pseudoephedrine 60 mg has been shown to be an effective nasal decongestant, as measured by nasal airflow, in patients with the common cold and rhinitis and following histamine challenge in normal subjects and in patients with allergic rhinitis. At therapeutic doses, pseudoephedrine has no clinically significant effect on blood pressure in normal subjects and patients with mild to moderate hypertension. PHARMACOKINETICS PARACETAMOL Paracetamol is rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Binding to the plasma proteins is minimal at therapeutic concentrations. Paracetamol is metabolised in the liver and excreted in the urine mainly as glucuronide and sulphate conjugates. Less than 5% is excreted as unmodified paracetamol. PSEUDOEPHEDRINE HYDROCHLORIDE Pseudoephedrine is rapidly and completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration, with no presystemic metabolism. Peak plasma levels are achiev সম্পূর্ণ নথি পড়ুন
