UNIROID-HC OINTMENT Hydrocortisone, Cinchocaine hydrochloride READ ALL OF THIS LEAFLET CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU START USING THIS MEDICINE. • Keep this leaflet. You may need to read it again. • If you have any further questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. • This medicine has been prescribed for you. Do not pass it on to others. FURTHER INFORMATION Uniroid-HC Ointment contains hydrocortisone and cinchocaine hydrochloride. • Hydrocortisone soothes and relieves irritations and inflammation of the skin. • Cinchocaine hydrochloride, a local anaesthetic, provides pain relief. It is used to treat: • external haemorrhoids (piles), providing short-term relief of pain, irritation and associated itching around the back passage (anus) • internal haemorrhoids using the nozzle applicator provided. DO NOT USE UNIROID-HC OINTMENT IF YOU: • are allergic to hydrocortisone, or to any other steroids • are allergic to cinchocaine, or to any other local anaesthetics • are allergic to any of the other ingredients (see Section 6) • have tuberculosis • have any kind of skin infection (e.g. thrush of the back passage, viruses affecting the skin). DO NOT use ointment in children under 12 years of age unless directed by the doctor. If any of the above apply to you, speak to your doctor or pharmacist. TAKE SPECIAL CARE WITH UNIROID-HC OINTMENT Before using the ointment, tell your doctor if you: • have had a bad reaction to this or similar products before • are pregnant or planning a pregnancy • are breast-feeding. OBJECT 1 UNIROID-HC OINTMENT Summary of Product Characteristics Updated 27-May-2015 | Chemidex Pharma Ltd 1. Name of the medicinal product Uniroid-HC Ointment 2. Qualitative and quantitative composition Each gram of ointment contains: Hydrocortisone Ph.Eur. 5.0mg Cinchocaine Hydrochloride B.P. 5.0mg 3. Pharmaceutical form An off-white, odourless, smooth, translucent ointment. 4. Clinical particulars 4.1 Therapeutic indications Uniroid-HC Ointment is indicated primarily for the treatment of external haemorrhoids for the short term relief of pain, irritation and associated pruritus ani. Uniroid-HC Ointment can also be used for internal haemorrhoids. 4.2 Posology and method of administration ADULTS Treatment with Uniroid-HC Ointment should be limited to seven days. Patients should be advised to return to their doctor if the condition persists beyond this time. Directions for use and dosage schedule: First wash the anal area gently with water and pat dry with cotton wool. With the finger, spread a small quantity of the ointment on the painful area without rubbing. Do not use toilet paper. Apply the ointment twice a day (morning and evening) and after each bowel movement, or as prescribed by the doctor. The ointment can be used internally by means of the nozzle applicator which is supplied. Insert the nozzle applicator to full extent and squeeze the tube gently from the lower end whilst withdrawing. The nozzle applicator must be cleaned thoroughly in warm, soapy water before and after each use. The ointment may be used separately or concurrently with the suppositories. THE ELDERLY Dosage modifications are not required in the elderly. CHILDREN Uniroid-HC Ointment is not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age unless directed by a doctor. 4.3 Contraindications Known hypersensitivity to any of the constituents and to local anaesthetics.
