Contents of the pack and other information What this medicine is and what it is used for These lozenges are recommended for the relief of sore throats and associated pain. The active ingredient Hexylresorcinol is an antiseptic which combats the bacteria that cause sore throats. It also acts as a local anaesthetic to bring soothing relief from pain and discomfort. What you need to know before you take this medicine Do not • take these lozenges if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to the active ingredient or any of the other ingredients in this medicine (listed in section 6). • give to children under 6 years. Pregnancy and breast-feeding Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medication. If you are pregnant, or think you may be pregnant please ask your doctor or pharmacist before using these lozenges. They may not be suitable for you. Important information about some of the ingredients of this medicine • Each lozenge contains a total of 2.4g of sucrose and glucose. This should be taken into account if you have diabetes mellitus. 1. PHARMACEUTICAL FORM Lozenge 4 CLINICAL PARTICULARS 4.1 THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS As an antiseptic and local anaesthetic for the relief of sore throat and its associated pain. 4.2 POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION Posology Adults, the Elderly, and Children aged 6 years and over:- One lozenge dissolved slowly in the mouth every three hours or as required. Do not take more than 12 lozenges in 24 hours. Not to be given to children under 6 years. Method of administration Oral 4.3 CONTRAINDICATIONS Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients listed in section 6.1. 4.4 SPECIAL WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS FOR USE Not to be given to children under 6 years. Contains a total of 2.4g of sucrose and liquid glucose solids per lozenge. Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose- galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine. 4.5 INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER MEDICAMENTS AND OTHER FORMS OF INTERACTION None known. 4.6 FERTILITY, PREGNANCY AND LACTATION Pregnancy There is no or inadequate evidence of the safety of the active ingredients in this medicine in human pregnancy.
