the
first
few
days
of
treatment.

PHARMACODYNAMICS

Chloramphenico!
is
a
bacteriostatic
antibiotic
with
a
broad
spectrum
of
action
against
both
Gram-positive
and
Gram-negative
bacteria.

Dexamethasone
is
a
synthetic
corticosteroid.
It
has
anti-inflammatory
anti-allergic
and
immune
suppessive
effects.
PHARMACOKINETICS
~
Chloramphenicol
is
rapidly
absorbed
from
the
gastrointestinal
tract.
After
ear
drops
administration,
a
very
small
amount
is
absorbed
insutficient
to
produce
systemic
effects.
Dexamethasone
is
readily
absorbed
from
the
gastrointestinal
tract.
After
topical
administration,
systemic
absorption
occurs
but
may
be
significant
only
at
higher
dosages.
Dexamethasone
is
metabolized
in
the
liver
and
excreted
mainly
in
the
urine.
