INDICATIONS
HYPERTENSION
LAPRIL
®
is indicated in the treatment of:
* All grades of essential hypertension
* Renovascular hypertension
CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE
LAPRIL
®
is indicated for the treatment of all degrees of symptomatic heart
failure. In such patients, it is recommended that LAPRIL® be
administered together with a diuretic.
LEFT VENTRICULAR DYSFUNCTION
All degrees of left ventricular dysfunction where the left ventricular
ejection fraction is less than 35%, irrespective of the presence or
severity of obvious symptoms of heart failure.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
1. History of previous hypersensitivity to LAPRIL
®
or to any component of the formulation and in patients with a history
of angioneurotic
oedema relating to previous treatment with an angiotensin-converting
enzyme inhibitor and in patients with hereditary or idiopathic
angioedema.
2. Pregnancy.
PRECAUTIONS
GENERAL
Angioedema
Angioedema of the face, extremities, lips, tongue, glottis and/or
larynx has been reported in patients treated with angiotensin
converting
enzyme inhibitors, including LAPRIL
®
. This may occur at any time during treatment. In such cases LAPRIL
®
should be promptly
discontinued and the patient carefully observed until the swelling
disappears. Even in those instances where swelling of only the tongue
is involved, without respiratory distress, patients may require
prolonged observation since treatment with antihistamines and
corticosteroids may not be sufficient. Very rarely, fatalities have
been reported due to angioedema associated with laryngeal oedema or
tongue oedema. Patients with involvement of the tongue, glottis or
larynx are likely to experience airway obstruction, especially those
with
a history of airway surgery. WHERE THERE IS INVOLVEMENT OF THE TONGUE,
GLOTTIS OR LARYNX, LIKELY TO CAUSE AIRWAY OBSTRUCTION,
APPROPRIATE THERAPY, WHICH MAY INCLUDE SUBCUTANEOUS ADRENALINE
SOLUTION 1:1000 (0.3ML TO 0.5ML) AND/OR MEASURES TO ENSURE
