Hampiseptol Solution for Injection appears to be a clear and
colourless
solution
COMPOSITION:
Each 1 mL contains
Sulfadimidine sodium
200 mg
Trimethoprim
40 mg
PHARMACODYNAMICS:
Sulfamethazine is a sulfonamide fast action in the body. It has only a
bacteriostatic activity, blocking the use of folic acid by the
bacteria. It has
a broad spectrum of activity ranging from Gram-positive to
Gram-negative
organisms (streptococci, staphylococci, corynobactéries, Pasteurella
and
E. coli.).
Trimethoprim belongs to the family of diaminopyrimidines. It is active
against streptococci and most Gram-negative bacteria, trimethoprim
specifically
inhibits
microbial
reductase
dehydrofolate
In combination these two active substances are synergistic. The
association allows a sequential blocking of biosynthesis of
tetrahydrofolic
acid, sulfonamide inhibiting incorporation of para-aminobenzoic acid
in the
folic acid, trimethoprim by specifically inhibiting microbial
dehydrofolate
reductase acid. The theoretical activity spectrum and extends to both
Gram positive (Staphylococcus, Listeria.) And Gram negative
(Escherichia
coli, Salmonella, Proteus, Enterobacter, Bordetella ...).
PHARMACOKINETICS:
The SMZ is considered a semi-sulfonamide delay with enough long
persistence
of
plasma
levels. Its
binding
to
plasma
proteins
is
important. The distribution is good in most tissues and organs. Its
elimination
is
mainly
urinary.
Trimethoprim is rapidly absorbed after oral administration. It is
widely
distributed in the body.
INDICATIONS:
Systemic treatment for a range of bacterial infections caused by
bacterial
sensitive to trimethoprim + sulfadimidine of the respiratory tract
(pneumonia,
bronchitis),
urogenital
tract
(nephritis,
metritis),
gastrointestinal tract (colibacillosis, salmonellosis).
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Horses
: 10mL per 200kg bw daily by intravenous
(IV)
injection only.
Cattle, Sheep & Pigs : 1mL per 10-15 kg bw daily by
intramuscular (IM)
or intravenous (IV) injection.
Dogs
: 1mL per 8kg bw daily b
