CUPLATON 100 MG CAPSULES
PRESENTATION
CUPLATON CAPSULES are small oval-shaped capsules with opaque white
shells.
Diameter approx. 6 x 8 mm.
QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION IN TERMS OF ACTIVE
INGREDIENTS
“Antifoam M” which is equivalent to dimethicone 100 mg/capsule.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Cuplaton changes the surface tension of the gastric and intestinal
contents,
destroying gas bubbles and foaming mucus and enabling gases to
coalesce in
quantities sufficient to be expelled in the natural way. Cuplaton is
nontoxic and is
not absorbed by the gastro-intestinal tract, but passes through
unchanged. It is
excreted as such in faeces.
INDICATIONS
Flatulence owing to inadequate diet or lack of exercise, for instance
during bed
rest. Aerophagia. Postoperative bloating. Meteorism due to gastritis
or diverticuli-
tis. Gastroscopy and X-ray examination of the gastro-intestinal tract.
The presence of gas in the gastro-intestinal tract is mainly due to
aerophagia
and decomposition of food during the digestive processes, especially
vegetables
and unboiled fruit. Both normal and increased quantities of gas in the
alimentary
canal give rise to trouble, such as pain, bloating and colic.
Silicone defoamers have been used successfully to eliminate the
mucus-covered
bubbles which obstruct a gastroscopist’s view of the stomach. This
led to their
trial in treating patients who complain of flatulence and distention.
Dimethicone,
a physiologically inert silicone, has been given for periods of from 4
weeks to 3

years, in doses of 40 mg four times daily, with excellent or good
results and no
side effects.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Adults: 1 capsule 3 times daily after meals and 1 capsule at bedtime.
1 capsule
4 times daily for a couple of days prior to gastroscopy and
X-ray examination of the gastro-intestinal tract.
Children: Dosage must be individualized by physician.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to dimethicone or to any of the ingredients of the
preparation.
