WHAT CP PHARMA FUSIDIC ACID
CREAM IS USED FOR
CP Pharma Fusidic Acid Cream is used
to treat skin conditions caused by
bacterial infection, such as:

Impetigo (a weeping, crusty and
swollen patch of skin)

Boils (swollen area of skin caused
by accumulation of pus and dead
tissue)

Carbuncles (Cluster of several boils)

Paronychia (Infection of skin near
to nail)

Infected wounds

Sycosis barbae (Infection of hair
follicles of the beard)

Hidradenitis (Skin infection that
causes abscesses and scarring on
the skin, usually around the groin,
buttocks, breasts and armpits)

Erythrasma (Brown, scaly skin
patches)

Folliculitis (infection, inflammation
of hair follicle)
HOW CP PHARMA FUSIDIC ACID
CREAM WORKS
This medicine contains _fusidic acid_ as
the active ingredient. It is a potent
antibacterial agent where it exhibits
unusual ability to penetrate intact skin.
Certain amount of fusidic acid can
inhibit nearly all strains of
_Staphylococcus aureus._ Topical
application of fusidic acid is also
effective against streptococci,
corynebacteria, Neisseria and certain
closdritia.

Do not take this medicine if:

you are allergic to _fusidic acid_ or
any of the ingredients listed at the
end of this leaflet.

DESCRIPTION
White, opaque cream.
COMPOSITION
Fusidic Acid (micronised) 2.03% w/w
_Equivalent to Fusidic Acid 2% w/w_
PHARMACODYNAMICS
Pharmacotherapeutic group: Other antibiotics for topical use, ATC
code: D06AX01.
Fusidic acid is a potent antibacterial agent. Fusidic acid and its
salts
show fat and water solubility and strong surface activity and exhibit
unusual ability to penetrate intact skin. Concentrations of 0.03 -
0.12
mcg fusidic acid per ml inhibit nearly all strains of Staphylococcus
aureus. Topical application of fusidic acid is also effective against
streptococci, corynebacteria, neisseria and certain clostridia.
PHARMACOKINETICS
In vitro studies show that fusidic acid can penetrate intact human
skin.
The degree of penetration depends on factors such as the duration of
exposure to fusidic acid and the condition of the skin. Fusidic acid
is
excreted mainly in the bile with little excreted in the urine.
INDICATIONS
CP Pharma Fusidic Acid Cream 2% is indicated for the treatment of skin
infections caused by Staphylococci, Streptococci, Propionibacterium
acnes, Corynebacterium minutissimum and other organisms sensitive
to fusidic acid. The most important indication being: Impetigo, Boils,
Carbuncles, Paronychia, Infected wounds, Sycosis barbae, Hidradenitis,
Erythrasma, Folliculitis.
CONTRAINDICATION
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients
in
this product.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
Bacterial
resistance
among
staphylococcus
aureus
has
been
reported to occur with the use of topical CP Pharma Fusidic Acid
Cream 2%. As with all antibiotics, extended or recurrent use may
increase the risk of developing antibiotic resistance.
Extended or recurrent use may increase the risk of developing
contact sensitisation.
CP Pharma Fusidic Acid Cream 2% should therefore be used with
care when applied in the proximity of the eyes.
