COMPOSITION :
Sodium sulfaquinoxaline:
5.37%w/v
(equivalent to 5% w/v sulfaquinoxaline)
Pyrimethamine
1.5% w/v
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION :
A yellow amber viscous solution, miscible with water.
PHARMACODYNAMICS :
Pyrimethamine is a pyrimidine derivative, folic acid antagonist, and
acts as an inhibitor of
dihydrofolate reductase. The sulphaquinoxaline is a sulfonamide that
acts as an antagonist
of PABA, suppressing the synthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid essential
to the protozoa. Both
compounds
are
synergistic.
Its
association
is
highly
effective
prophylactically
and
therapeutically for coccidiosis. The ratio for both active ingredients
is 1:3.
They are active against coccidia as follows: Chicken: _Eimeris
tenella, E. necatrix, E. bruneti, E. _
_acervulina, E. maximum, E. mivati, E. praecox, E. Hagani, E. mitis.
Turkey: E. meleagridis, E. _
_adenoids, E. gallopavonis._
PHARMACOKINETICS :
Pyrimethamine
has
very
slow
drug
absorption.
Its
average
life
is
1.5
days
via
oral
administration and being eliminated by the kidneys.
The sulphaquinoxaline is rapidly absorbed orally through the
gastrointestinal tract. The
degree of absorption varies with species. It is widely disseminated in
the tissues and
cerebrospinal fluid. The maximum concentration in blood reaches within
3-5 hours. It is
metabolized via acetylation in the liver and is excreted in urine for
partly unmetabolized,
with an average disposal time of 11 hours.
INDICATION :
Chicken and Turkey: Treatment of cecal and intestinal coccidiosis.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Oral, in drinking water.
Chicken and Turkey: 15-22.5mg pyrimethamine + 50-75mg sulfaquinoxaline
per liter of
drinking water (equivalent to 1-1.5 ml Rhobazin
TM
Plus/litre of drinking water) for three
days, stop for 2-3 days and resume treatment for another three days at
the same dose.
CONTRAINDICATION:
Do not administer to:
- Animals with haemorrhages
- Animals with liver or kidney impairment.
- Adult breeding poultry
