DESCRIPTION

® 
Clindamycin Injection is a sterile solution containing a
water soluble ester of clindamycin and 
phosphoric acid (clindamycin phosphate).
Each mL contains the equivalent of 150 mg clindamycin base, 
9 mg benzyl alcohol and 0.5 mg sodium edetate in
water for injections.  When necessary, pH is adjusted 
to pH 5.5-7.0 with sodium hydroxide.  Clindamycin is a
semi-synthetic antibiotic produced by a 7(S)-
chloro-substitution
of the 7(R)-hydroxyl group of the parent compound
lincomycin. DBL

Clindamycin 
Injection is a clear and almost colourless solution. The pH of the solution is 5.5
to 7.0. 

Clindamycin phosphate has been shown
to have _in vitro_ activity against isolates
of the following 
organisms:  

Aerobic gram-positive cocci, including: 
_Staphylococcus aureus _
_Staphylococcus epidermidis _
(penicillinase and non-penicillinase producing strains).

When tested by_ in vitro_ methods some
staphylococcal strains, originally resistant to erythromycin,
rapidly 
develop resistance to clindamycin.   
Streptococci (not _Enterococcus faecalis_)  
Pneumococci  

Anaerobic gram-negative bacilli, including:  
_Bacteroides_ species 
_Fusobacterium_ species  

Anaerobic gram-positive non-sporeforming bacilli, including: 
_Propionibacterium  _
_Eubacterium _
_Actinomyces_ species  
Anaerobic and microaerophilic gram-positive cocci, including:
