It has foldable legs to raise and lower the stretcher which are operated by a hydraulic system powered by batteries or raised and lowered manually. It has locking and locating devices that may also assist in loading into an ambulance. It has side rails and a harness to secure the patient, equipment mounts and trays and IV poles to aid in supporting equipment used in treatment. The bed can be elevated at the head or leg end (Trendelenburg position).
