Date of Revision WHAT CHLORHEXIDA 4 SOLUTION IS USED FOR Chlorhexida 4 Solution is used for the pre- operative surgical hand disinfection and antiseptic hand washing. HOW CHLORHEXIDA 4 SOLUTION WORKS Chlorhexidine kills by damage to the cell membrane allows for leakage of contents leading to cell death. It is active against some fungi, virus and bacteria. BEFORE YOU USE CHLORHEXIDA 4 SOLUTION _-When you must not use it _ You must not use this medicine and should talk to your doctor or pharmacist if • You are allergic to any of ingredients in this medicine. • You are not sure whether you should start using this medicine. _Pregnancy and breast-feeding _ Do not use if you are pregnant, thinking of becoming pregnant, or breast feeding. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine. _-Before you start use it _ This product contains chlorhexidine. Inform your healthcare provider if you have a known allergy to chlorhexidine. Stop using this product and seek immediate medical assistance if you experience rash, itching, swelling, breathing difficulties, light-headedness or rapid heartbeat. _-Taking other medicines _ Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any or have recently taken any other medicine even those not prescribed which you obtained from a pharmacy, supermarket or any other source. IDAMAN PHARMA MANUFACTURING CHLORHEXIDA 4 SOLUTION CHLORHEXIDINE GLUCONATE 4% W/V DESCRIPTION A clear reddish solution without any foreign particles and with Lavender odour. Each 100mL of the solution contains 4g of _Chlorhexidine _ _Gluconate. _ _ _ PHARMACODYNAMIC _Chlorhexidine _ is bactericidal to both gram-positive and gram- negative bacteria, although it is not as potent against the latter. It disrupts the plasma membrane of the bacteria cell, and cellular contents are lost. Species of _Proteus _ and _Pseudomonas _ are relatively less susceptible. It inhibits mycobacteria and also some viruses and is active against some fungi. It is inactive against bacterial spores at room temperature. PHARMACOKINETICS _Chlorhexidine _ is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and skin. It has low systemic toxicity. Thus is would not be expected to cause systemic intoxication from topical application, and none has been noted thus far. A few cases of sensitization have been reported. Bacterial resistance to the drug has not been reported, but overgrowth(superinfection) by naturally resistant gram-negative bacteria may sometimes occur. Instances of hospital epidemics caused by _Pseudomonas maltophilia _actually growing in aqueous solutions of chlorhexidine have been reported. INDICATIONS _Chlorhexida 4 Solution _is used for general antiseptic purpose such as for pre-operative skin disinfection and hand washing. RECOMMENDED DOSAGE Used as a detergent solution for surgical hand disinfection and antiseptic hand washing, undiluted. ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION Topical CONTRAINDICATIONS _Chlorhexidine _ should not be used on the brain, meninges, middle ear, or other sensitive tissues because it is irritant. Contact with the eye should be avoided except for solutions expressly for use in the eyes. Chlorhexidine if absorbed on to contact lenses may cause eye irritation.
