AKNEMYCIN® PLUS SOLUTION COMPOSITION 100g of solution contains erythromycin 4.0g and tretinoin 0.025g. PHARMACOLOGY Erythromycin has an antibacterial effect against Propionibacterium acnes, a skin bacterium which is responsible in the pathogenesis of acne. Erythromycin penetrates the sebaceous gland ducts following topical application, and has a bacteriostatic effect there. Tretinoin (vitamin A acid) is a deep-acting keratolytic agent. It causes comedolysis and reduction in size of the sebaceous glands. INDICATIONS All forms of acne, both non-inflammatory forms with comedones and inflammatory forms with papules and pustules, particularly in the case of fat-rich skin. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION Aknemycin Plus is applied directly to the skin from the special applicator bottle. Apply the solution once or twice daily to the affected skin after washing, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. The duration of use depends on the condition of the skin and should not exceed 12 weeks. CONTRAINDICATIONS Aknemycin Plus should not be given to patients who are sensitive to erythromycin or tretinoin. It should not be given to patients with acute eczema, rosacea, or acute skin inflammations, particularly in the mouth region (perioral dermatitis). It should not be given to patients with a family history of cutaneous epithelioma. DRUG INTERACTIONS The simultaneous administration of other skin preparations should be avoided, as this could aggravate irritations to the skin. Most significant incompatibilities with light, oxidising agents. PRECAUTIONS / WARNINGS Aknemycin Plus may not be applied in the immediate vicinity of the lips and nostrils. Avoid contact with eyes.
