DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Read entire carton before use.
This product is contraindicated in animals that are hypersensitive to
cephalosporins and other
penicillins.
Side Effects: Some cats and dogs may exhibit nausea, vomiting and
diarrhoea.
Dosage and Administration:
Cats and Dogs: 10 – 20 mg/kg every 12 hours (i.e. 1 tablet per 5 kg
bodyweight morning and night).
In refractory cases, dose may be increased to 40 mg/kg/day at 12
hourly intervals (i.e. 1 tablet per 2
kg bodyweight morning and night).
A dose rate of 30 mg/kg (i.e. 1 tablet per 2.5 kg bodyweight at 24
hour intervals) once a day is
effective for the treatment of lower urinary tract infections in cats
and dogs, and pyoderma in dogs,
caused by bacteria susceptible to cephalexin. In cases of canine deep
pyoderma and refractory cases
of superficial pyoderma, dose should be doubled (60 mg/kg once daily).
Long term treatment may
be necessary for skin and lower urinary tract infections.
Efficacy of this product when administered as a single daily dose of
30 mg/kg has only been
established for the treatment of bacterial infections causing the
claimed disease states. Cephalexin is
excreted into urine as unchanged parent molecule in concentrations
that exceed the MIC for
susceptible organisms.
