QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION One sachet contains: Glucose, anhydrous 10.0 g Sodium chloride 3.5 g Sodium citrate 2.9 g Potassium chloride 2.5 g 3. PHARMACEUTICAL FORM Dose powder. White, crystalline, odourless powder 4. CLINICAL PARTICULARS 4.1 THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS Oral rehydration therapy and correction of acidosis in acute diarrhea with mild or moderate dehydration (e.g. in children 3 – 9 % weight loss), recovery of electrolytes imbalance, thermal strain conducted with disturbances of water-electrolytic balance. Therapy to prevent dehydratation induced physical activities or thermal strain. 4.2 POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION One sachet is dissolved in one liter of water and the solution is administered orally. No other constituents may be mixed with the solution, to not alter its efficacy. Prior to the initiation of treatment, the patient should be weighed to estimate the weight loss and severity of dehydration. Fatty foods and foods high in simple sugars, in general, should be avoided. Use of Rehydron should be initiated when diarrhea begins in order to prevent dehydration. During 6 - 10 hours Rehydron solution can be given in amount 30-60 ml/kg of body weight. It need not usually be used longer than three to four days, and its use must be terminated when the diarrhea stops. If the patient suffers from nausea and vomiting, it is advisable to administer small, repeated doses of cooled solution. Also a nasogastric tube can be used under supervision of a physician. REHYDRATION: To correct dehydration, Rehydron is given during initial 6 to 10 hours twice the amount of weight loss attributed to diarrhea, e.g. if the weight loss is 400 g, the amount of Rehydron is 800 g or 8.0 dl. During this phase, no other liquid supplementation is needed. SUBSEQUENT CARE: If the diarrhea prolongs, after correcting the dehydration, Rehydron, water, and other liquids should be administered during 24 hours according to Preberite celoten dokument
