MODE OF ACTION:
DESCRIPTION:
Intra-vaginal sponges containing Flugestone acetate for controlled
breeding of sheep and goats.
SPONGE SIZE:
Each polyurethane sponge contains 20 mg Flugestone acetate.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
PRECAUTIONS:
Operators should wear protective gloves when handling the sponges
during insertion and removal.
DO NOT USE alcohols, cresols, phenols or sheep dips as disinfectants.
Insert sponges only by means of special sheep or goat applicators
available.
Goats are sensitive and may resent sponge insertion. Insert the sponge
gently to avoid the doe moving and injuring itself. In
does there may be a slight decrease in milk production for several
days after sponge removal.
If the insertion is carried out in dusty conditions, add antibiotic
cream to the sponge to prevent vaginitis.
If the sponge appears to have adhered to the vaginal wall it can be
easily removed by re-inserting the applicator as before and
removing the sponge by tension on the string through the applicator.
If eaten by animals the sponges can cause impaction. To avoid this the
sponges should be destroyed on removal.
CHRONOGEST

CR will not cause barren animals to become fertile.
For use in non-pregnant female sheep and goats only.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
SPONGE INSERTION WITH THE APPLICATOR:
Lubricate the applicator; place it in a disinfectant solution, such as
8 mL of 10% Benzalkonium/litre of water or 5g
Chlorhexidine/litre of water. Do not immerse the sponge in
disinfectant.
Wearing protective gloves, compress the sponge and insert into the
rear end of the applicator with the string hanging free.
Push the sponge forward until it is just behind the front end of the
tube.
Carefully insert the applicator about 10-15 cm into the vagina.
Eject the sponge by gently pushing the rod and holding the applicator
firmly. The rod has a stop to prevent damage occurring to
the vagina.
Remove the rod and then the applicator tube, leaving the drawstring
hanging outside the vagina for
