WHAT OLFEN GEL IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR Olfen Gel contains the active substance diclofenac which belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is specially formulated for rubbing into the skin. Olfen Gel is used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation and swelling. Olfen Gel is suitable for external treatment of rheumatic disorders localised in joints, tendons and muscles, for example, arthrosis, muscle rheumatism, pain or swelling near a joint (bursitis), painful shoulder stiffness or tendon inflammation (tendovaginitis). Olfen Gel is also used for the treatment of pain and swelling caused by sprains, dislocations, bruising (contusions) and strains. 2. PAGE 1 OF 7 SUMMARY OF PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS 1. NAME OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT Olfen Gel 2. QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION _1 g of gel contains:_ Diclofenac sodium 10 mg For a full list of excipients, see section 6.1. 3. PHARMACEUTICAL FORM Gel 4. CLINICAL PARTICULARS 4.1 THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS For the topical treatment of: - localised forms of soft tissue rheumatism, such as tendovaginitis, shoulder-hand- syndrome, bursitis, periarthropathies; - localised rheumatic disorders, such as arthroses of peripheral joints and the spine; - traumatically related inflammations of the tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints, such as sprains, contusions and strains. 4.2 POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION Posology _Adults:_ Depending on the size of the body part to be treated, 2-4 g (about 1-2 fingertips-full) of Olfen Gel are applied 3-4 times daily and spread onto the affected part of the body (do not rub in). Olfen Gel can also be used to support a therapy with other Olfen administration forms. A daily dose of 15 g of gel should not be exceeded. The duration of use shall depend on the indication and the success of treatment. It is recommended to review the treatment after 2 weeks. _Children:_ There are insufficient data on efficacy and safety available for children and adolescents below 14 PAGE 2 OF 7 years of age. In children aged 14 years and over, if this product is required for more than 7 days for pain relief or if the symptoms worsen, the patient/parents of the adolescent is/are advised to consult a doctor.
