COMPOSITION
Each Lasix tablet contains 40mg furosemide.
Excipients: lactose, corn starch, pregelatinized starch, colloidal
silicon dioxide, talc, magnesium stearate
THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS
Cardiac, hepatic and renal oedema (in the presence of nephrotic
syndrome, treatment of the basic disorder is the prime concern). -
Oedema due to burns. - Mild to moderate hypertension.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
DOSAGE
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor the following guideline
apply:
In adults treatment is usually begun with 1/2-1-2 tablets daily;
maintenance dose: 1/2-1 tablet daily.
In
children
furosemide
is
usually
administered
orally.
Dosage
recommendation: 2mg furosemide/kg bodyweight up to maximum
of 40mg/day.
ADMINISTRATION
The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor. The tablets
should be swallowed whole with some liquid.
During long-term therapy blood creatinine and urea, as well as
plasma electrolytes, especially potassium, calcium, chloride and
bicarbonate should be regularly monitored.
If this drug is used to treat hypertension, the patient must be
regularly monitored by the doctor.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
LASIX must not be used
-
in
patients
with
anuric
renal
failure
not
responding
to
furosemide.
-
in patients with pre-comatose and comatose states associated
with hepatic encephalopathy.
-
in patients with severe hypokalaemia.
-
in patients with severe hyponatraemia.
-
in
hypovolaemia
patients
with
or
without
hypotension
or
dehydration.
-
In patients with hypersensitivity to furosemide or any of the
excipients
of
LASIX.
Patients
allergic
to
sulfonamides(e.g.
sulfonamide
antibiotics
or
sulfonylureas)
may
show
cross-sensitivity to furosemide.

in breast feeding women
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS

Urinary outflow must be secured.
In patients with a partial obstruction of urinary outflow (e.g. in
patients
with
bladder-emptying
disorders,
prostatic
hyperplasia or narrowing of the urethra), increased product of
urine may provoke or aggravate complaints.
