INDICATIONS [/za_1181.html#1] CONTRA-INDICATIONS [/za_1181.html#1] DOSAGE [/za_1181.html#1] SIDE-EFFECTS [/za_1181.html#1] PREGNANCY [/za_1181.html#1] [/za_1181.html#1] OVERDOSE [/za_1181.html#1] IDENTIFICATION [/za_1181.html#1] [/za_1181.html#1] PATIENT INFORMATION GULF ASCORBIC ACID 100 (TABLET) GULF ASCORBIC ACID 250 (TABLET) PROPRIETARY NAME (and dosage form): GULF ASCORBIC ACID 100 (TABLET) GULF ASCORBIC ACID 250 (TABLET) COMPOSITION: GULF ASCORBIC ACID 100: Each tablet contains 100 mg of ASCORBIC ACID ( VITAMIN C ) GULF ASCORBIC ACID 250: Each tablet contains 250 mg of Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION: A 22.1.4 Vitamins –other PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION: Ascorbic acid is a vitamin supplement INDICATIONS: For the prevention of Vitamin C deficiency, as a vitamin supplement. DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Gulf Ascorbic Acid 100: Take one or two tablets a day, after meals, or as prescribed Gulf Ascorbic Acid 250: Take one tablet a day, after meals, or as prescribed SIDE EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: Large doses may cause excessive urination, diarrhoea, other gastro-intestinal disturbances, and the formation of renal calcium oxalate calculi. Acidification of the urine by ascorbic acid may cause precipitation of cystine or oxalate stones in the urinary tract and will alter the excretion of certain drugs administered concurrently. Very large doses of Ascorbic acid, therefore, should be avoided in patients with tendency to gout. Tolerance may in induced in patients taking high doses. Ascorbic acid in doses greater than 1g daily should not be taken in pregnancy since the effects of large doses on the foetus is unknown and may cause rebound scurvy in infants.
