Date of Revision WHAT SELFIDE LOTION IS USED FOR Selfide Lotion is for treatment of seborrheic dermatitis (a greasy, crusting, itching scalp caused by excess oil), tinea versicolor (fungal infection of the skin characterized by small, discoloured patches), dandruff and as adjunct in the treatment of tinea capitis (superficial fungal infection of the skin of the scalp, eyebrows and eyelashes, with a prosperity for attacking hair shafts and follicles). HOW SELFIDE LOTION WORKS It works by reducing greasiness of the scalp and by slowing down growth of the layer of skin cells on the scalp that cause dandruff. Besides that, it has antifungal activity which works by slowing down the growth of fungus that caused the symptoms. BEFORE YOU USE SELFIDE LOTION_ _ - _When you must not use it_ Do not use Selfide Lotion if you: • Are sensitive to selenium sulphide or any other ingredients in this preparation. If you are not sure whether you should use this solution, consult your doctor. _Pregnancy and breastfeeding _ Do not take Selfide Lotion for treatment of tinea versicolor in pregnant women. Do not take Selfide Lotion if you are breast- feeding. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. _ _ _ _ - _Before you start to use it _ • Do not swallow and avoid contact with eyes. • Keep out of reach of children. • Do not use on broken or inflamed skin. • Skin irritation or discoloration of hair may occur and can be minimized or avoided by rinsing thoroughly. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY SELFIDE LOTION DESCRIPTION A reddish-brown suspension containing 2.5g of selenium sulfide per 100ml. INDICATION For the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis, tinea versicolor, dandruff and as an adjunct in the treatment of tinea capitis. RECOMMENDED DOSE SCALP TREATMENT - Apply Selfide lotion to wet hair, lather and leave on scalp for 3 minutes. Rinse. Repeat treatment. Then rinse thoroughly in running water. Use twice weekly at first, then as necessary as physician directs. SKIN TREATMENT - Apply undiluted to affected areas for 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat daily for 1 week or as physician directs. ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION For topical use. CONTRAINDICATIONS • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients • Do not allow contact with broken and severely inflamed skin WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS • For external use only. Keep out of eyes; if SELFIDE LOTION gets into the eyes, wash thoroughly with cold water. • Do not leave the lotion in contact with the hair or skin for more than the recommended duration as irritation, burning sensation or blistering may occur and do not use more often than recommended. • SELFIDE LOTION is not to be ingested. • In the event of accidental ingestion, take all appropriate measures immediately. • SELFIDE LOTION must not be applied to or on infected or broken skin as this may cause systemic absorption of the selenium sulfide. PREGNANCY AND LACTATION Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding. SIDE EFFECTS Immune system disorder Frequency unknown: Hypersensitivity, rash and urticarial Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorder Frequency unknown: Irritation and sensitization, sometimes described as a burning sensation, blistering can occur, especially if the shampoo is kept in contact with hair or skin for longer than the recommended duration. Alopecia can occur. Hair colour changes may occur; this can be avoided or minimized by thorough washing of the hair after treatment.
