The system has a 3-stage valve with variable resistance mechanism that regulates flow through the valve (stage III) at a rate close to that of CSF secretion, therefore minimizing the risks of under or overdrainage. The OSV II is an implantable system used in the treatment of patients with hydrocephalus, to shunt Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) from the ventricles to the peritoneal cavity or other appropriate drainage site such as the heart's right atrium.
