Description
Light yellow to brown, clear liquid.
Pharmacodynamics/
Pharmacokinetics
The primary pharmacodynamic action of the active substance is
antimicrobial. Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic with broad spectrum
activity. It is effective against many Gram negative and Gram
positive
bacteria.
Chlorhexidine
is
absorbed
onto
bacterial
membranes and interferes with membrane functions such as the
sodium
and
potassium
ATPase
pump.
At
bacteriostatic
concentrations, lysis of the membrane occurs, but at bactericidal
concentrations, coagulation of the cytoplasm occurs without cell
rupture. Chlorhexidine gluconate possesses virtually no secondary
pharmacodynamic properties.
Chlorhexidine
gluconate
is
poorly
absorbed
via
the
skin
or
gastrointestinal tract as it binds strongly to skin and mucosa due
to its cationic nature.
The compound is not likely to pose a hazard to the animals or to
the humans who are applying the Pyohex to their pets.

Indication
Dermcare Pyohex 30g/L Medicated Shampoo is formulated to
remove dirt and scale, degrease the skin and kill cutaneous micro-
organisms which primarily or seconda
rily cause dermatitis. An aid
in the treatment of superficial dermatitis associated with infections
by _Staphylococcus intermedius_ in dogs.
Recommended
Dosage
Use approximately 1 mL of shampoo for every kilogram weight of
dog. For example, 10 mL of shampoo should be enough to treat a
10 kg dog. Dermcare Pyohex™ 30 g/L Medicated Shampoo can be
used on haired or non-haired skin.
Mode of
Administration
Topical application. Wet the animal thoroughly with clean water.
Apply Dermcare Pyohex™ 30 g/L Medicated Shampoo to the
animal at several points and massage into the coa
