DESCRIPTION A clear colourless solution. Each mL contains Xylazine hydrochloride 23.37mg, equivalent to Xylazine base 20mg. MODE OF ACTION Xylazine is a sedative with variable analgesic and muscle relaxant properties depending on the species and temperament of the animal injected and also on the dosage and route of injection employed. The major affect is on presynaptic alphaZadrenergic receptors in the central nervous system by causing inhibition of the release of noradrenaline from the nerve endings. It also produces muscle relaxation by inhibition of the central intraneuronal transmission of nerve impulses. Xylazine stimulates the emetic centre in the cat and occasionally the dog.
