Date of Revision WHAT ROYCE METRONIDAZOLE TABLET 200MG IS USED FOR Royce Metronidazole Tablet 200mg is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria and other organisms in different parts of the body. HOW ROYCE METRONIDAZOLE TABLET 200MG WORKS The active ingredient, metronidazole, is an antibiotic that belongs to a group of medicine called nitroimidazoles. It works by killing or stopping the growth of bacteria and other organisms causing these infections. BEFORE YOU USE ROYCE METRONIDAZOLE TABLET 200MG _-When you must not use it _ Do not take Royce Metronidazole Tablet 200mg if you are: allergic to metronidazole or other nitromidazole derivatives in first trimester of pregnancy, when used to treat trichomoniasis (sexually transmitted disease) _-Before you start to use it _ Tell your doctor of pharmacist if: you have allergies to any other medicines, foods, preservatives or dyes. you have severe hepatic disease. you have kidney problems. you have/ had candidiasis (fungal infection). you have mild leukopenia (reduced number of white blood cells). _-Taking other medicines _ Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Your doctor may need to change the dose of the other medications or take other precautions. In some cases, you may have to stop taking one of the medicines. INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER MEDICAMENTS: Alcohol – Abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, headache, or flushing; alcoholic beverages should be avoided during therapy and for at least 1 day afterward. Oral anticoagulants – Increases Prothrombin time. C i m e t i d i n e a n d o t h e r d r u g s c a p a b l e o f reducing hepatic enzyme a c t i v i t y – I n c r e a s e s serum metronidazole level. Phenytoin, Phenobarbital, and other drugs capable of inducing hepatic enzymes – Decreases serum metronidazole level. PREGNANCY AND LACTATION: There is inadequate evidence of the safety of metronidazole in pregnancy. M e t r o g y l s h o u l d n o t t h e r e f o r e b e given during pregnancy or during lactation unless the physician considers it essential; i n t h e s e c i r c u m s t a n c e s t h e short, high-dosage regimens are not recommended. SIDE EFFECTS: Gastro-intestinal – N a u s e a (12%); anorexia; v o m i t i n g ; d i a r r h o e a ; e p i g a s t r i c d i s t r e s s ; a b d o m i n a l cramp; c o n s t i p a t i o n ; s h a r p , m e t a l l i c , u n p l e a s a n t t a s t e ; furry tongue; glossitis; stomatitis. C e n t r a l n e r v o u s s y s t e m a n d neurological – H e a d a c h e , d i z z i n e s s , v e r t i g o , i n c o o r d i n a t i o n , ataxia, convulsive seizures, confusion, irritability, depression, weakness, insomnia, peripheral, neuropathy (numbness, paresthesia of extremities).
