WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR Esomeprazole gastro-resistant tablets 20mg & 40mg contains a medicine called esomeprazole. This belongs to a group of medicines called ’proton pump inhibitors’. They work by reducing the amount of acid that your stomach produces. This medicine is used to treat the following conditions: Adults and young people aged 12 years and above - ‘Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease’ (GORD). This is where acid from the stomach escapes into the gullet (the tube which connects your throat to your stomach) causing pain, inflammation and heartburn. - Ulcers in the stomach or upper part of the gut (intestine) that are infected with bacteria called ‘Helicobacter pylori’. Page 1 of 18 SUMMARY OF PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS 1. NAME OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT Esomeprazole 20 mg gastro-resistant tablets Esomeprazole 40 mg gastro-resistant tablets 2. QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION One gastro-resistant tablet contain 20 mg esomeprazole (as magnesium dihydrate). Excipients with known effect: Each tablet contains sucrose 43.7 mg and lactose (as lactose monohydrate 67.5 mg). One gastro-resistant tablet contain 40 mg esomeprazole (as magnesium dihydrate). Excipients with known effect: Each tablet contains sucrose 87.4 mg and lactose (as lactose monohydrate 100.125 mg). For the full list of excipients, see section 6.1. 3. PHARMACEUTICAL FORM Gastro-resistant tablet. Esomeprazole 20 mg gastro-resistant tablets : Pink coloured, capsule shaped, biconvex, film coated tablets debossed ‘20’ on one side and plain on other side. Length: 16.10 ±0.2mm, Breadth: 8.10 ±0.2mm. Esomeprazole 40 mg gastro-resistant tablets : Pink coloured, capsule shaped, biconvex film coated tablets debossed ‘40’ on one side and plain on other side. Length: 19.10 ±0.2mm, Breadth: 8.10 ±0.2mm. 4.
