3. HAZARDOUS IDENTIFICATIONS:
CLASSIFIED AS NON-HAZARDOUS ACCORDING TO
CRITERIA OF WORKSAFE AUSTRALIA
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS: This section
includes possible adverse effects, which could occur if
this material is not handled in the recommended
manner.
EYE: Slight eye irritant (solvent content)
SKIN: Slight irritant (solvent content).
INGESTION: Harmful if swallowed.
INHALATION: Do not inhale vapour (solvent)
SYSTEMIC (other target organ): The liver is the
primary target organ for metalaxyl in animals.
CANCER INFORMATION: The ingredients are not
listed as carcinogenic in Worksafe’s document
“Exposure Standards for Atmospheric Contaminants
in the Occupational Environment” (May 1995).
Available studies of the carcinogenicity of metalaxyl
are inconclusive.
TERATOLOGY (Birth defects): Data suggests
Metalaxyl is not teratogenic.
REPRODUCTIVE EFFECTS: Data suggests is unlikely
to cause reproductive effects.
MUTAGENICITY: Data suggests metalaxyl has no
mutagenic potential.
NOTE: Workers exposed to hydrocarbon solvents in
high concentrations, will typically show signs of central
nervous system depression. Disorientation, euphoria,
giddiness and confusion, progressing to
unconsciousness, paralysis, convulsion and death
from respiratory or cardiovascular arrest may be
observed.
