Claims:
An analgesic, sedative and muscle relaxant injection for use in dogs,
cats, sheep, goats
and cattle.

Contraindications:
This product is contraindicated for use in animals in the last month
of pregnancy as it may
precipitate an early parturition or abortion.
This product is contraindicated for intra-arterial administration.
This product is contraindicated in dogs or cats in conditions where
emesis is undesirable
e.g. gastric dilation and torsion, ingestion of caustic liquid or
sharp foreign objects.
Precautions:
Side Effects:
Salivation, hyperthermia, transient diarrhoea and ruminal atony may be
observed.
Atropine premedication may help prevent excessive salivation in
ruminants.
It is not recommended that sedated animals be left in an environment
where overheating
could occur due to inability to adequately thermoregulate. In cattle,
temperature elevation is RLP APPROVED
highest 4-5 hours after an intramuscular injection, and slowly returns
to pre-injection levels
around 14 hours later.
Normal precautions in relation to prolonged recumbency should be
observed in ruminants
to avoid bloating, ruminal atony, regurgitation and aspiration
pneumonia.
Dogs and Cats:
It is normal for AVET Xylazine 20 to cause cardiopulmonary depression
manifested by a
decrease in heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output and respiratory
rate together with an
increase in total peripheral resistance. These effects are transitory
and of no clinical
significance in healthy animals, however, it is not recommended to use
AVET Xylazine 20
where there is cardiovascular disease including conditions of shock,
