throughout this leaflet.

START USING THIS MEDICINE BECAUSE IT CONTAINS
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOU.
Always use this medicine exactly as described
in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist

WHAT CLOTRIMAZOLE CREAM IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Clotrimazole cream is a cream that is applied
to the skin. It contains clotrimazole as the
active ingredient, which is an antifungal.
Clotrimazole cream is used for the treatment
of skin infections caused by dermatophytes
(a group of fungi that cause skin diseases).
Clotrimazole cream can be used to treat:
•
ringworm infections
•
paronychia (an infection of the fingernail
or toenail
•
pityriasis versicolor (a rash caused by a
yeast fungus)
•
erythrasma (a reddish brown scaly patches
on the skin)
•
intertrigo (a rash in body folds)
•
fungal nappy rash
•
candidal vulvitis (thrush of the vulva)
•
candidal balanitis (thrush of the penis).
BEFORE YOU USE THIS MEDICINE
DO NOT USE CLOTRIMAZOLE CREAM IF:
•
You are allergic (hypersensitive) to
clotrimazole or any of the other
ingredients of Clotrimazole cream (see
list of ingredients in Section 6). An allergic
reaction may include rash, itching, difficulty
breathing or swelling of the face, lips, throat

CLINICAL PARTICULARS
4.1
THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS
For the treatment of skin infections due to dermatophytes (e.g.
trycophyton
species), yeasts (e.g. candida species), moulds and other fungi. These
include
ringworm (tinea) infections, paronychia, pityriasis versicolor,
erythrasma and
intertrigo,
as
well
as
fungal
nappy
rash,
candidal
vulvitis
and
candidal
balanitis.
4.2
POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
Dosage:
Adult, children and elderly:
Apply to the affected area two or three times daily
Dermatophyte infections: treat for at least one month
Candida infections: treat for at least two weeks
Route of administration:
Directly applied to the affected area.
A physician should be consulted if symptoms do not improve within 7
days.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Known hypersensitivity to any of the components

SPECIAL WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
The cream contains cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol, which may cause
local
skin reaction (e.g. contact dermatitis).
Instruct patients not to smoke or go near naked flames - risk of
severe burns.
Fabric (clothing, bedding, dressings etc) that has been in contact
with this
product burns more easily and is a serious fire hazard.
Washing clothing and bedding may reduce product build-up but not
totally
remove it.

INTERACTION WITH OTHER MEDICINAL PRODUCTS AND OTHER FORMS OF
INTERACTION
Clotrimazole
Cream
may
cause
damage
to
latex
contraceptives.
Consequentially patients should be advised to use alternative
precautions for at
least five days after using this product.
4.6
FERTILITY, PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Pregnancy
Data on a large number of exposed pregnancies indicate no adverse
effects of
Clotrimazole on pregnancy or on the health of the foetus/newborn
