WHAT DOKTACILLIN IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Doktacillin is a medicine used for treatment of bacterial infections
(antibiotic) and works by killing
bacteria that cause infections. The active substance is ampicillin
which belongs to the group of
medicines called penicillins. Doktacillin is used to treat infections
caused by bacteria susceptible to
ampicillin.
Doktacillin is used to treat the following conditions:
-
acute exacerbation of bronchitis
-
upper urinary tract infection
-
heart valve infection
-
blood poisoning
-
meningitis caused by a bacterium called listeria
-
severe infections in newborns.
-
pneumonia when penicillin has failed or is unsuitable for other
reasons

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU ARE GIVEN DOKTACILLIN
YOU SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN DOKTACILLIN:

if you are allergic to ampicillin or other penicillins.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before you are given
Doktacillin:
-
if you are allergic to cephalosporins (another group of antibacterial
medicines).
INFLAMMATION OF THE LARGE INTESTINE
Be particularly alert to symptoms suggestive of inflammation of the
large intestine such as watery
diarrhoea, often containing blood and mucus, abdominal pain

Vitt till nästan vitt pulver.

KLINISKA UPPGIFTER
4.1
TERAPEUTISKA INDIKATIONER
Akut exacerbation av kronisk bronkit. Övre urinvägsinfektion orsakad
av enterokocker. Septikemi
samt endokardit orsakad av enterokocker. Akut meningit orsakad av
_Listeria monocytogenes_
. Neonatal
septikemi.
Vid samhällsförvärvad pneumoni bör Doktacillin förbehållas
patienter hos vilka penicillin G ej givit
önskad effekt eller är olämplig av andra skäl.

DOSERING OCH ADMINISTRERINGSSÄTT
_Dosering_
_Vuxna:_
_Intramuskulärt_
: 500 mg 4 gånger per dygn.
_Intravenös injektion_
: 500 mg-2 g 4-6 gånger per dygn. Ges långsamt, 2 g under minst 3-4
minuter.
_Kontinuerlig intravenös infusion_
: 6-12 g per dygn. Infusionspump bör om möjligt användas.
_Intravenös intermittent infusion_
: 2 g 4-6 gånger per dygn.
Högre doser än de rekommenderade kan ges intravenöst vid behov.
_Barn:_
_Intramuskulärt:_
50 mg/kg kroppsvikt och dygn. Dygnsdosen fördelas på fyra doser med
6 timmars
intervall. Till nyfödda och prematura barn rekommenderas 25-50 mg/kg
fördelat på två doser.
_Intravenöst:_
100-200 mg/kg kroppsvikt och dygn vid svåra infektioner. Vid
bakteriell meningit kan
den intravenösa doseringen till barn vid behov ökas till 400 mg/kg
kroppsvikt och dygn.
_Behandlingskontroll_
Vid långvarig behandling (>2-3 veckor) bör lever- och njurfunktion
samt blodbild följas.
Vid
_akut meningit orsakad av Listeria monocytogenes _
samt vid
_neonatal septikemi _
ges Doktacillin i
kombination med annat antibiotikum.

KONTRAINDIKATIONER
Överkänslighet mot den aktiva substansen eller mot andra
penicilliner.
