PACKAGE LEAFLET: INFORMATION FOR THE USER ANTIPEOL READ ALL OF THIS LEAFLET CAREFULLY BECAUSE IT CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOU. This medicine is available without prescription. However, you still need to use Antipeol carefully to get the best results from it. • Keep this leaflet. You may need to read it again • Ask your pharmacist if you need more information or advice. • You must see a doctor if your symptoms get worse or do not improve after 7 days. • If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist. WHAT ANTIPEOL IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR Antipeol is a soothing ointment used for the relief of minor skin problems. Antipeol contains: • zinc oxide - soothes and protects the skin • ichthammol and salicylic acid - stop the growth of bacteria on the skin 2. BEFORE YOU USE ANTIPEOL DO NOT USE ANTIPEOL IF: • you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients of Antipeol (listed in Section 6). Do not use Antipeol if the above applies to you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the medicine. WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS Do not smoke or go near naked flames - risk of severe burns. Fabric (clothing, bedding, dressings etc) that has been in contact with this product burns more easily and is a serious fire hazard. Washing clothing and bedding may reduce product build-up but not totally remove it. PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicine, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SOME OF THE INGREDIENTS OF ANTIPEOL Antipeol contains lanolin (wool fat). If you are allergic to lanolin, do not use Antipeol. 3. SUMMARY OF PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS 1 NAME OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT Antipeol St James’ Ointment 2 QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION ACTIVE CONSTITUENTS: (% W/W) Zinc Oxide 20.0 Ichthammol (1 in 3 dilution) 2.8 Salicylic Acid 0.1 3 PHARMACEUTICAL FORM Ointment 4 CLINICAL PARTICULARS 4.1 THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS Soothing ointment for relief of minor skin problems 4.2 POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION For general use, smear the ointment around the affected area. 4.3 CONTRAINDICATIONS Hypersensitivity to the active substance(s) or to any of the excipients 4 CLINICAL PARTICULARS 4.4 SPECIAL WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS FOR USE Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Wool fat (lanolin) may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis) This product should be discontinued should this occur. 4.9 OVERDOSE Not applicable - for topical use 5 PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES 5.1 PHARMACODYNAMIC PROPERTIES ATC CODE: D02AB Zinc Oxide is a soothing and protective agent. Ichthammol and Salicylic Acid have bacteriostatic properties. 5.2 PHARMACOKINETIC PROPERTIES No data is available concerning the pharmacokinetic properties. 5.3 PRECLINICAL SAFETY DATA Zinc Oxide, Ichthammol, Salicylic Acid and Urea are widely used in topical skin care products.
