Date of revision WHAT IS ANTAMIN TABLET USED FOR For the treatment of allergic conditions, such as: nose allergy (sneezing, itchy, runny and blocked nose, watery eyes) skin allergy (swelling, red, scaly, flaky and itchy skin) swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat food allergy insect bites. HOW ANTAMIN TABLET WORKS Chlorpheniramine Maleate has the antihistamine property which prevents the release of histamine due to allergic reaction. Histamine is a chemical substance that is released in the body as part of an allergic reaction. BEFORE YOU USE ANTAMIN TABLET_ _ _- When you must not use it_ Do not use Antamin Tablet if you are allergic to Chlorpheniramine Maleate or any ingredients in this medicine. _ _ _Pregnancy and lactation _ Do not take Antamin Tablet if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or think you may be pregnant. Do not take Antamin Tablet if you are breast-feeding. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. _ _ _- Before you start to use it_ Tell your doctor or pharmacist before using Antamin Tablet if you: have liver problems. have epilepsy (seizure). have prostate enlargement. have glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye). _- Taking other medicines_ Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, including any that you buy without a prescription from a pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop. Important Information. Please read carefully. ANTAMIN TM TABLETS COMPOSITION Each tablet contains Chlorpheniramine Maleate 4 mg PROPERTIES ANTAMIN preparations contain chlorpheniramine maleate, a potent antihistamine which has antagonistic action against histamine. It is readily absorbed with quick action starting 15 to 30 minutes after ingestion. INDICATIONS ANTAMIN is useful for the symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions such as seasonal rhinitis (hay fever), acute urticaria, angioedema, food allergies, insect bites, pruritus, atopic and contact dermatitis. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION To be administered orally. Adults Children 6 to 12 years 2 to 5 years 1 to 2 years Below 1 year CONTRAINDICATIONS : 4 mg three to four times daily; : 2 mg three or four times daily; : 1 to 2 mg three times daily; : 1 mg twice daily; : as prescribed by° the physician In patients with known hypersensitivity to chlorpheniramine. PRECAUTIONS As drowsiness may occur, patients taking this medication should be advised not to drive or operate machinery and to avoid alcoholic drinks. ANTAMIN should be used with care in patients with glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, epilepsy and hepatic disease. Like all other medicines, the use of chlorpheniramine should be avoided during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary and under close medical supervision. DRUG INTERACTIONS Avoid concurrent use with tranquillisers and anticholinergic drugs (e.g. benzhexol) as their effects and side effects may be potentiated. Chlorpheniramine has an anta' gonistic action towards betahistine. SIDE EFFECTS Although Chlorpheniramine is less sedating compared with some other antihistamines, drowsiness may occur in susceptible patients. Other side effects that may occur include dizziness, headaches, insomnia, nervousness, anticholinergic effects such as dry mouth, throat and respiratory passages, blurred vision and gastrointestinal disturbances.
