QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION
100 ml solution contains 10 g of povidone-+iodine, equivalent to 1 g
available iodine.

CLINICAL PARTICULARS
4.1.
THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS
Betadine
is a disinfectant of the skin and mucosal membranes with a broad
spectrum of
bactericidal, fungicidal, virucidal, protozoicidal and sporicidal
action. It acts as a rapid
germicidal skin cleanser/hand wash with activity against e.g. MRSA,
flu (influenza), avian
flu, swine flu, SARS-coronavirus, colds (rhinovirus, coronavirus), and
Ebola (please refer to
section 5.1).
It can be used as a personal hygiene protective measure against
community-acquired and
nosocomial infections i.e. contact, airborne and droplet-transmitted
infections

Betadine
solution for external use is indicated for:

preparation (disinfection) of the skin and mucous membrane (including
vaginal) for
surgical interventions, injections and aspirations,

wound disinfection; prevention of microbial contamination in burns,
incisions and other
local lesions,

therapeutic care of infected surgical incisions, infected traumatic
lesions, emergency
treatment
of
lacerations
and
abrasions,
infected
decubital
ulcers
or
stasis
ulcers,
pyodermias and secondarily infected dermatoses, second- and
third-degree burns.

POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
Povidone-iodine solution should be applied on the appropriated area
undiluted, as many times
as needed. It should be left to dry spontaneously for 2-3 minutes. The
