The Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) System is utilized for intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation therapy in the aorta, whereby balloon inflation, during diastole and deflation, during systole increases blood supply to the heart muscle and decreases work of the left ventricle.
